Dr. Vilchez-Vargas has developed his scientific career in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, (bio)statistics, (bio)informatics and machine learning, unravelling factors either involved or caused by contamination, diseases or aging. For such analyses the most update and modern informatic pipelines/programs/platforms were applied.

He started this research line with the work of his PhD Thesis, at the University of Granada in Spain (2000-2005). From 2005 to 2022, he was in four postdoctoral research stages: at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, Germany (2005-2008), at the HZI in Braunschweig, Germany (2008-2013), at the U. Ghent, Belgium (2013-2015) and at the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious diseases in the University Hospital of Magdeburg, Otto-von-Gericke University (2015 to 2022).
